Wat Pho - Temple of the Reclining Buddha, Bangkok, Thailand.

The beautiful temple of the Reclining Buddha called 'Wat Pho' is situated adjacent to the Grand Palace complex in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, Thailand. The Temple houses a majestic 160 feet long statue of the reclining Buddha encased in gold. It stands at the site of a much older temple in monastery and was constructed by King Rama I of Thailand in 1788.(?) It is probably the oldest and the largest of all the temples in the Thai Capital.
The temple compound contains various stupas, shrines, Buddha idols and several giant Chinese sculptures. Apart from these, the walls of most of the shrines are adorned with exquisite wall paintings depicting the life and teachings of the Buddha and events from the lives of the Thai Royalty.
